Volumen cuarto de la Historia de las Indias de fray Bartolomé de las Casas, centrado en los años iniciales de la conquista de Cuba, el Darien y Yucatán. Resume la entrada de Diego Velázquez en Cuba, la muerte de frailes en Cumaná, los cambios de gobierno en la Española y el Darien, y el descubrimiento del mar del Sur por Vasco Núñez de Balboa. También recoge las gestiones de Las Casas en defensa de los indios ante la corte y el avance de las expediciones de Grijalva y Cortés hasta 1519.
