Resumen
Novela argentina situada en Pago Chico, un pequeño pueblo que surge y crece alrededor de un fortín de la guerra contra los indígenas. La obra presenta su población heterogénea, la transformación del asentamiento en partido provincial y una vida política dominada por la obediencia al gobierno, los subsidios y las maniobras locales, con una oposición apenas naciente y llena de chismes, denuncias y disputas municipales.
