Summary
This Christmas story opens on a snowy railroad junction where Captain Hoban, returning to a Northwest post, is delayed among soldiers and a private car. There he unexpectedly meets Lieutenant Darrell Compton and is drawn into the party heading to the Two Bar B Ranch for Christmas. Among the guests is Sally Compton, whose uneasy position is tied to Buckleigh’s determined courtship and the pressure of wealth.
