Summary
Dusty Corbett wakes up in a corral after a drunken night and learns that, as the incoming sheriff, he has embarrassed himself just before taking office. His friend Weary Willis tells him that the rope where Dusty left his horse is sticky with a syruplike substance, and the two go to inspect the hitch-rack beside Sapphire Smalley’s saloon. The scene sets up a western mystery around the strange rope and Dusty’s missing memory.
