Summary
Set in the Montana cow town of Piperock and the wider Yaller Rock County, the book follows local characters Ike Harper, Magpie Simpkins, Dirty Shirt Jones, and others amid the town’s rough, comic rivalries. It introduces a plan by the Chamber of Commerce and Scenery Sims to make a moving picture using Piperock people, while Ike and Dirty Shirt return to find the town caught up in the production and its odd purpose of rescuing a queen of the jungles of Africa.
