Summary
Nicholas Kane, a chemical engineer and Ph.D. holder, develops an uncanny problem after years of assorted metal additions to his body, including a pencil point in his palm, dental work, glasses, a hearing aid, and a wedding band. While sitting at work, he begins hearing voices in his head, and the story follows his immediate confusion as he wonders whether the experience is psychological or something like a radio pickup. The account also places his marriage and home life in the background as the strange episode unfolds.
