Summary
Jay Bird Whittaker is a wealthy but temperamental cow-ranch owner who distrusts women after a near engagement and is known for explosive outbursts. At the Cross-J ranch, he is surrounded by cowboys who tease him and by the practical burdens of running the place. The story turns when he receives letters from a woman named Clementine, related to his brother Bill, who wants to visit the ranch with a friend and seems drawn to cowboy life.
