Summary
W. C. Tuttle’s western short story follows Ike Harper and his tall partner Magpie as they take on odd jobs to buy grubstake money and drift through rough mining country. Around Painted Post, a thinly inhabited camp, they mix with other down-on-their-luck prospectors, trade talk about gold, drink, and law trouble, and meet two strangely dressed newcomers who draw their attention. The tale is told in a humorously rough frontier voice and centers on miners, trade, and survival.
