Summary
On Venus, Regan is a professional hunter trying to earn enough money to leave, even though he feels uneasy about a job he has agreed to take. Mrs. Holloway, a wealthy Terran bored with ordinary game, hires him to guide her after the sacred red roebuck, a rare animal protected by Venusian belief. As Regan prepares for the hunt, his doubts deepen when an old holy man denounces him as a defiler.
