Summary
J. A. Ferguson’s novel follows Kinloch, a blind man moving through a fogbound London night and making his way from the Embankment toward the Underground and then out to Ealing. As he travels, he reflects on his isolation, his changed life, and his troubled decision to seek help from an old friend, Peter Dunn. The story also recalls their student friendship and wartime connection, suggesting a mystery built around Kinloch’s present errand and the history that links the two men.
