Summary
Robert Ellsmore Grandon is a dissatisfied young man from wealthy Chicago life, hungry for purpose and adventure beyond the routines arranged by his aunt. After being approached in the theater by a stranger, he loses consciousness and awakens confined in a locked, barred room where he meets Harry Thorne and Dr. Morgan. They begin questioning him about telepathy and astral projection, indicating that his abduction is tied to unusual psychic experimentation and the larger danger awaiting him in the story.
