Summary
In this volume of Mrs. J. H. Riddell’s Irish fiction, Maxwell Drewitt is confronted with a challenge to his plans for Kincorth when a younger Drewitt, Brian, takes charge and begins changing the property’s management. Maxwell reacts angrily as attorney Ryan reports that the interest has not been demanded, the papers are being held back, and Geoffry Pryor may be backing the opposing side. The story centers on Maxwell’s frustration, his dealings with Ryan, and the shifting control of the Drewitt estate.
