Summary
In a rough mining camp hidden in the mountains, a rider follows a forked trail past crude warning signs, a wounded horseman, and signs of illegal or makeshift travel toward Caliente Flats. He reaches a hard-bitten settlement of shacks, saloons, and mines, then enters a restaurant where the room falls tense at his arrival and armed men react as if they know him. The opening establishes a Western mystery atmosphere built around a dangerous valley town and an encounter that could turn violent.
