Summary
In Monte Vista, Sheriff Joe Cook tells his deputy Shorty McKay to spend less time at the telephone exchange with Belle Haynes and more time on official duties. Shorty is torn between his work, his worry for Belle, and the sheriff’s concern over an anonymous warning that gunmen may be planning trouble in town. Meanwhile, Cook hosts two Denver cattle buyers at the Red Spruce Hotel to discuss a large herd of white-faced cattle, while other train passengers, including a jewelry salesman, arrive in town.
