Summary
Deputy Sheriff Shorty McKay presses to take over a case after a sheriff’s office conference, using a book on detective disguises to argue that he is ready for the job. Sheriff Joe Cook lets him go on the train to Alamosa but worries when Shorty seems to miss it, until a disguised rancher at the platform turns out to be Shorty himself. On the trip and after arriving in Alamosa, his odd behavior draws attention from railroad men, a marshal, and two strangers who decide to watch him.
