Summary
Set in Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day, this story follows Senator Kennicott and Hobson as they argue over a political bill and its possible consequences for war while walking home from a banquet. They encounter a young, troubled soldier in faded khaki who seems overwhelmed by the dead around him and challenges their assumptions about sacrifice, war, and what the fallen died for.
