Summary
Fred MacIsaac’s novel follows young James Vincent Morrison in Rosa Blanca, capital of the Central American republic of Santa Rosa, where the heat, the hotel, and the politics of a banana republic frame his uneasy stay. He has remained there because of Ellen Goring, whom he plans to marry, and after seeing her in the hotel dining room he acts on that impulse at once, only to discover he has already offended her father, the American consul.
