Johannes Schlafs Buch verbindet eine religionsphilosophische Kritik der modernen mechanistischen Naturwissenschaft mit einer Verteidigung von Entwicklung und Erhaltung der Kraft als religiös bedeutsame Grundtatsachen. Zugleich legt der Autor seinen astronomischen Standpunkt dar, nach dem die kopernische heliozentrische Lehre unhaltbar sei und die Erde den Zentralkörper bilde. Dabei beruft er sich auf den Austausch mit Fachleuten, deren Einwände und Zugeständnisse er als Bestätigung seiner geozentrischen Auffassung anführt.
