Der Band ist als Reisebeschreibung des Jahres 1829 angelegt und erscheint 1831 in Wien unter dem Namen des k. k. Majors Anton Prokesch von Osten. Der Anfang versteht das Heilige Land als geschichtlichen und religiösen Raum zwischen Euphrat und Mittelmeer und erläutert ausführlich seine verschiedenen biblischen und historischen Bezeichnungen. Dabei werden besonders die Grenzen von Kanaan, Israel und Judäa sowie ihre Verwendung in alten Quellen behandelt.
