Kurzbeschreibung
Die Erzählung spielt im Sanatorium Beaurivage in Davos, wo junge deutsche und andere europäische Patienten zusammenleben und die Tage von Liegekur, Untersuchungen und Gesprächen geprägt sind. Im Zentrum stehen ein hustender junger Deutscher, die blonde Sybil, ein kleiner japanischer Assistent und ein bulgarischer Offizier, dessen Kriegserfahrungen ihn schwer belasten. Zugleich wird das Kurleben mit Ärzten, Promenaden, Hotels und der winterlichen Landschaft von Davos beschrieben.
