Ein junger Wanderer geht an einem heißen Julitag die alte Poststraße von Borna nach Leipzig entlang und gelangt über einen schmalen Weg zu einem Dorf an der Gösel. Dort verweilt er beim Anblick des Ortes, des Bachs und einer alten, festungsartigen Burg auf dem Hügel. Während er sich ausruht, schweifen seine Gedanken in die Vergangenheit des Schlosses, das ihm als Zeuge vieler Jahrhunderte und vergangenen Adelslebens erscheint.
