Kurzbeschreibung
Die Erzählung führt in ein abgelegenes Alpental in der Steiermark, wo eine einzelne, alte Hütte von Fels, Geröll und Wildbach umgeben ist. Beschrieben werden die Spuren früherer Bewohner, die karge Existenz einer kleinen Hüttengemeinde und die Überlieferung eines Berggeist-Märchens, das mit einer Naturkatastrophe und dem Untergang mehrerer Hütten verbunden wird. Im verbliebenen Haus lebt schließlich nur noch eine kleine Familie, deren Alltag von der unwirtlichen Berglandschaft geprägt ist.
